A-Z-KOT-phone-IThe International Criminal Court and the case against Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto has remained one of the most followed stories across traditional and social media since it began. As the court case began to unfold, Kenyans on Twitter watched and spoke their minds. Notably, in September 2013 during Deputy President Ruto’s trial at the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands speculation was heavy on social media as to the identity of a protected witness. So much so that presiding Judge Chile Eboe-Osuji made a warning aimed at Kenyan social media, bloggers and journalists that revealing Witness #536’s identity would amount to a contempt of court.
